I Created a Coordinating Card and Fishing Tackle Box!

My husband Dave loved to fish. I remember when we found out he had terminal cancer, he decided to sell his fishing boat. I think that was one of the hardest things for him. I was so sad that he had to give up one of his favorite hobbies. Giving up a sport that he loved. When the Annual Catalog debuted, I didn’t purchase this bundle right away. It broke my heart to think of how much Dave loved to fish, and how that had been taken away from him. I couldn’t bring myself to make that purchase.
A few weeks went by and I finally did it, I purchased the bundle in his honor. When going through grief, it’s the little things that tug at your heartstrings. I still have not been able to do or eat certain things that Dave loved. It’s hard to explain to anyone that has never lost a spouse. But I made myself purchase this bundle and I’m glad that I did.

LET’S GO FISHING SUITE COLLECTION

I have so much fun thinking about Dave when creating these two projects. Inside the box, you’ll find designer paper decorated Hershey Nuggets:

There are so many options when deciding to purchase this suite:
- Let’s Go Fishing Suite, which includes the stamp set, coordinating dies, designer paper and embossing folder
- Gone Fishing Bundle, which includes the stamp set and coordinating dies
- Gone Fishing stamp set only
- Gone Fishing dies only
- Let’s Go Fishing Designer Paper only
- Twisted Rope 3D Embossing Folder only
I urge you though, to purchase the suite. You won’t want to be without any of the four products you see in the photo above. I did not purchase the embossing folder….yet.
As I created the fishing tackle treat box, I took photos of each step in case you wanted to replicate my project. The card coordinates so you can replicate the box top to the card front. What a great gift!

Follow these steps. In the first photo, I show you how to place the large rounded corner die to create the card front. All other steps re for the treat box.

Photo 1: Create the card front: Boho Blue Cardstock 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″. Score at 4-1/4″ and fold. Place the die on top of the folded cardstock BUT, look at the photo bottom where I placed sticky tape to hold the die in place. Notice that the fold of the card is slightly inside the die by about 1/8″ of an inch. You don’t want to cut the fold.
Now for the treat box:
Photo 2: Boho Blue Cardstock 9″ x 7-3/4″. Score at 1″ and 2″ on all four sides. Using Paper Snips, snip off the corner square and the two squares on either side. Create a tab as shown in photo 2 with the inner square.
Photo 3: Fold on all scored lines and add liquid glue to each tab.

Photo 4: Press the tabs to the inside to create all four walls of the box and you should have four flaps remaining.
Photo 5: Add liquid glue to the two shorter flaps and one long flap. Fold and press the three flaps to the inside of the box.
Photo 6: This is what your treat box should look like with one flap remaining open.

Photo 7: Flip the box upside-down and add Tear & Tape to the underside of the remaining flap.
Photo 8: Boho Blue Cardstock 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″. Cut with the large, rounded corner die shape with the same die that you used on the card. Flip the box upside-down with the tab folded in and press the box on top of the rounded cardstock layer, making sure to line up all four sides of the box.
Photo 9: Flip the box so the lid is on top, and this is what your box now looks like with the lid in place.

Photo 10 Tab 1: Start with the long center strip which measures 9″ x 3/4″. Score at 2″ on both ends and fold. Add glue to both 2″ ends and press to the sides of the box. The folded ends should be even with the back of the box corners.
Photo 10 Tab 2: For the front tab strip measure at 2″ x 3/4″. Score at 1/2″ on each end. Add adhesive to the two ends and press in place in the center of the front section. I positioned mine a little off center.
Photo 10 Tab 3: For the last tab, you will need two. The strips measure 3″ x 3/4″. Score both strips at 1/2″ on each end. Glue both to the back section to create three slots.
Photo 11: Using Hershey Nuggets, wrap and glue a strip of designer paper around each chocolate that measures 3-1/4″ x 1″. Place inside the box.
Photo 12: Ten nuggets will fit inside the box.

Decorate the card and box top to coordinate, so you’ll need 2 of everything. I first cut the tackle box shape with the die for each project with Boho Blue Cardstock and added Foam Adhesive Strips along each section on the back. Glue to each project: front of card and top of box.
Next, you will use designer paper scraps and the same die to cut the rectangular, inside shapes. Cut one at a time so you don’t waste the designer paper. Add liquid glue inside the holes and press the designer paper in each section.
Stamp and diecut all of the layers you see in each section. Colors I used: Calypso Coral, Boho Blue, Mossy Meadow, Very Vanilla, Gold Foil Sheets and Neutrals Adhesive-Backed Sequins. Most of the elements are glued in place with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I hope you enjoyed these projects. I know I did!

Super project, thanks so much for sharing. Will be working on making one soon.
Have a joy filled day.
I hope you do Seletta! Thanks!
What a beautiful tribute!
Thanks Cherri, I sure miss him!
Great projects, Debbie!! Thanks for sharing your creativity. I have no fishermen but I love the card & box!!
My heart breaks for you. I’ve followed you for many years & I know what a huge loss you have endured.
I wish you continued strength. Take comfort in knowing “Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday…unheard, unseen but always near, still loved, still missed and forever dear”. I believe this to be true.

What a lovely tribute Debbie, bought tears to my eyes đź’ś
Aww, thank you Wendy!
Love your project, Debbie!
I was thinking it would be great to make a tackle box , just not sure how to go about doing this.
It is hard to relive our heart ache over the loss of someone dear but so necessary to continue the grief process.
I too have lost my hubby and understand your loss.
Take care.

So sorry for your loss as well Connie!
I love this suite as well and have made several cards. I love this idea of a little “ tackle box”. Going through Pinterest to find anew idea for my son’s birthday. My husband and two sons went together and bought a fishing boat a few years ago, perfect timing as my husband retired shortly there after.
It’s a great thing to see them all doing something they love, together!
I hope he loved his tackle box Sue!
