Colored Cardstock Strips Technique

May 15, 2023 Leave a Comment

The Possibilities Are Endless With This Really Neat Technique And I Show You How Today!

Good Morning! As I post today, I will be on my way back home from spending time with my Mom for the past three days. If you are a Mom, I hope you had a great Mother’s Day. I am blessed to still have my Mom who turned 83 in April.

Today’s project uses cardstock strips to create a beautiful background layer. By using three different cardstock colors, the result is three cards so what a great deal! Before I show you how to create using this technique, you’ll see close-up photos of each card in three colors below:

I used the Good Feelings stamp set for the sentiment and all three are heat embossed first with White Embossing Powder and VersaMark Ink. I then cut each sentiment with the Stylish Shapes Dies and added color in the center of each circle with a Mini Blending Brush. The colors I used are: Bubble Bath, Lemon Lolly and Lemon Lime Twist.

Follow these steps to create three cards just like mine:

Cardstock Strip Recipe:

  • Cut (3) layers of Basic White Cardstock to measure 4-1/4″ x 3″.
  • Cut (7) strips of cardstock for each color to measure 3″ x 1/2″.
  • Using one color at a time, glue one strip at the top of the white layer and continue down to fill the whole cardstock piece with a 1/8″ space between each strip. Photo 1.
  • Use a Paper Trimmer to cut each completed layer into (8) angled sections. You cut on the short side so the strips look like photo 2.
  • Make three piles total using each color. Photo 3.
  • Separate each pile of color so all three colors are now in a new pile. Photo 4.
  • Cut (3) layers of Basic White Cardstock to measure 5-1/4″ x 4″. Start gluing the strips as shown in Photo 5. As you position your strips, make sure you turn each one so the angled short end is in the opposite position.
  • Once all 8 strips are glued in place, cut your layer to the size you want. Mine measures 3-3/4″ x 3-1/4″.
  • Glue over a 2nd layer of Basic White that measures 4″ x 3-1/2″.

Glue to card front. To complete my card, I used these layers:

  • Card Base: 11″ x 4-1/4″. Score and fold at 5-1/2″.
  • Layer 2: Basic White 4″ x 3-1/2″.
  • Layer 3: Strip layer 3-3/4″ x 3-1/4″.
  • Sentiment: Stylish Shapes Dies 2-1/8″ circle.
  • Branches: (2) branches cut with the Bough Punch.
  • Bling: Adhesive-Backed Solid Gems
