Beautiful Thistle & Hues Of Happiness

February 22, 2023 Leave a Comment

I Even Added Some Fine Tip Glue to Create a Shiny Flower!

I have a love-hate relationship with thistles. They can be very invasive, especially when you try to keep them out of flower gardens. And if you don’t get them out very early in their growth, they grow these prickly leaves that really hurt! I had some in one of my flower gardens and my hubby Dave came from a farming family. He told me the secret that his Dad used, was to cut it down as far as you can go because you can never pull out the whole root. Once you cut it down into the soil, pour some old oil over the small area and the oil kills the roots. It does work and I usually don’t plant anything in that area for awhile.

If you look closely at the image below on the left, the brown part of the flower is shiny. I’ll explain how I did that in my card recipe below. I stamped the flower image twice on the Crumb Cake layer with Crumb Cake Ink and then layered the third flower over the stamping:

Stampin’ Up! Products Used:

  • Stamps: Beautiful Thistle
  • Inks: Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, VersaMark
  • Stampin’ Blends: Fresh Freesia, Parakeet Party, Soft Suede
  • Cardstock: Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Fresh Freesia, Basic White
  • Designer Paper: Hues Of Happiness
  • Tools & Accessories: Starry Sky 1/8″ Metallic Woven Ribbon, Pastel Adhesive-Backed Sequins, Stitched Rectangle Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Heat Tool, Basics Embossing Powders, Fine Tip Glue Pen

Card Recipe:

  • Card Base: Early Espresso Cardstock 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″. Score and fold at 4-1/4″.
  • Layer #2: Hues Of Happiness Designer Paper 5-1/4″ x 4. Glue to card base.
  • Layer #3: Crumb Cake Cardstock cut with the Stitched Rectangle Dies 4-3/4″ x 3-3/8″. Stamp the thistle image twice on the left and on the right using Crumb Cake Ink. Set aside.
  • Thistle: Ink the thistle image first with VersaMark Ink and again with Early Espresso Ink. Stamp on Basic White Cardstock. Sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder and melt with the Heat Tool. Color with the Stampin’ Blends Markers. Cut with the die. Color the brown part of the flower with the Fine Tip Glue Pen and allow to dry. (this makes it hard and shiny) Once dry, glue to Crumb Cake layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Set aside
  • Sentiment: Stamp the sentiment on Fresh Freesia Cardstock with Early Espresso Ink. Cut with the stitched die that measures 2-1/2″ x 1/2. Layer over an Early Espresso Cardstock layer that measures 2-7/8″ x 7/8″ with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Glue to Crumb Cake layer about 1/2″ from the bottom.
  • Ribbon: Wrap the ribbon around the Crumb Cake layer twice and tie into a bow at the left. Glue layer to card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Bling: Add Pastel Adhesive-Backed Sequins to the background.
