One of the great quirks of being a demo is that we receive a monthly magazine called “Stampin’ Success”. Each month along with all the samples, Stampin’ Up! shows us some new things and what I am about to show you today is one of them. I was so enthralled with creating my own bead in the card for today. Look at the center of the butterfly below:

I made this bead all by myself using a few Stampin’ Up! supplies and if you keep reading, I’ll show you how. This is a full photo of the card. I love how the bead matches the DSP layer in the back of the butterfly:

Here’s what you will need:
- DSP cut at 1 1/4″ x 4 1/2″. Taper to about 1/2″ on the end.
- Toothpick
- Tombow Mono-adhesive
- Crystal Effects
- Empty embellishment dish
Start out with the Tombow, a toothpick and the DSP:

Apply Tombow to the reverse side of the DSP that will not be showing. Make sure you DO NOT add glue to the first 1/2″ of the widest part of the DSP:

Place the toothpick at the widest end that does not have any glue and start rolling the DSP around the toothpick:

Keep rolling until you get to the end of the DSP. This is what you should end up with:

Very carefully, start applying Crystal Effects around the whole bead until it is completely covered. Because there was no glue at the widest portion of the DSP strip, you can freely turn the bead so it is moveable and easier to cover with Crystal Effects:

Using the empty embellishment container (we will be using the lid), turn the lid upside-down and place the toothpick on the edges to allow the bead to dry:

I let my bead dry for a few hours. Complete your card while the bead dries. Once the bead is ready to handle, apply Tombow to the center of the butterfly’s body and glue the bead in place:
