Vicki’s Workshop!

October 23, 2013 1 Comment

I have a trio of cards to show you today. Vicki invited some girls over for a workshop last Saturday and we had a great time stamping together. My first card uses a technique that is new to me. I’ve seen people use Sticky Strip to adhere glitter to so I thought why not try embossing powder on it? Here is the result of the first card I demo’d for the girls:

When you heat the embossing powder you have to watch closely so you don’t end up melting the Sticky Strip too much. The effect is really neat as the embossing powder melts and actually forms little tiny bubble-like mounds giving it texture:

I stamped 3 of the birthday shape and layered all 3 of them on top of each other using Stampin’ Dimensionals. And finally, what’s a card without grunge? Love my Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set. I dirtied up my card a little by first stamping the specks on scrap paper and then without re-inking, stamped on my card front:

Card Supplies:

  • Cardstock: Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White
  • Accessories: Candy Dots
  • Inks: Bermuda Bay
  • Tools: Sticky Strip, Melon Mambo Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Bitty Banners Framelits Dies, 1 3/4″ Scallop Circle Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Stamps: Gorgeous Grunge, Sketched Birthday

Card #2:

I wanted this card to remain the usual 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ size so using the Bow Die, I created my bow first. I then cut a piece of Whisper White Cardstock measuing 11″ x 4 1/4″, scored at 5 1/2″ in the center and folded. Using a measuring guide, I placed my bow where I would glue it later at the zero measurement and with the card base underneath my bow I penciled at the 5 1/2″ mark on the other end. I used my paper cutter to trim the bottom. I then cut off on each side at an angle to create the gift shape of my card and then glued designer paper to the front.

Here is a close up of the beautiful bow:

Card Supplies:
  • Stamps: That’s the Ticket
  • Inks: Gumball Green
  • Tools: Big Shot Machine, Ticket Punch, Bow Die, Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Accessories: Large Rhinestone Jewels
  • DSP: Season of Style
The final card is the card all of the attendees made and took home with them:

I showed the girls how to use an Exacto Knife to cut a slit at the bottom of the dove and then slide the cardstock piece underneath:

Card Supplies

  • Stamp Sets: Calm Christmas, Joy to the World, Music Notes Wheel Stamp
  • Accessories: Rhinestone Jewels, Linen Thread
  • Inks: Baked Brown Sugar
  • Cardstock: Whisper White, Very Vanilla, Rose Red
  • Misc: Exacto Knife

Very interesting technique with the sticky strip. Have to give that a try. Great cards Debbie.
