Tuesday Tips or Technques-Faux Buttons!

June 11, 2013 15 Comments

For today’s Tuesday Tips or Techniques, I’ve had some requests asking me how I created the faux buttons on my granddaughter Kaitlynn’s birthday invite from March of this year. Here was the original post showing you all the items I made for her birthday full of buttons: Kaitlynn’s Lalaloopsy Birthday Party.

So here is a photo of the original invite with the faux buttons:

And here are the steps to creating these cool buttons!

Step 1:

I started out with a cardstock piece and cut one circle with the 1″ Circle Punch. Set aside the circle cut-out and keep the cardstock piece with the hole.

Step 2:

Using the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch, center the hole by viewing it on the underside of the punch. In the “window” and cut. Cut one additional full circle with the same punch.

Step 3:

Using a Sponge Dauber, ink the ring that you cut out in Step 2. Ink both the inside and outside of the ring.

Step 4:

Glue the ring to the top of a full circle. In the photo above, you see one that has already been glued and one that I will be gluing.

Step 5:

Once your ring and full circle have been glued together, use the Sponge Dauber to lightly ink the center of the faux button. This adds shading and dimension to your faux button.

Step 6:

Using a hand-held 1/4″ Circle Punch, punch 2 button holes for your faux button. Faux Button completed!

    Love this idea!
I did a" cute as a button" baby shower a while ago and this would have come in so handy for some of the decor!
I now have an easy way to make buttons for cards and scrapbooking instead of using the real thing!
    Thanks for sharing!
