Tuesday Tips or Techniques-Homemade Cloud!

July 2, 2013 9 Comments

Happy Birthday to Jeremy! He is turning 14 on July 4th but we are celebrating today. Jeremy is so much into anything and everything outdoorsy. Dave’s daughter Heidi informed us that he is contemplating attending college to become a Maine State Game Warden. This would be wonderful and right up his alley.  I made this card a few days ago and when I completed it I thought of Jeremy and how appropriate for him:

The moose image is from the stamp set “Walk In The Wild”. Now for those of you that have never visited our state of Maine, it is normal to be driving down any road and meeting this creature, sometimes face-to-face. The average moose weighs 800 lbs. or more. They are HUGE! Up to seven feet tall. From the months of early spring into summer, these creatures are the cause of many car accidents which frequently result in many deaths. The moose are so dark in color that they blend in with the darkness of night and are hard to see. The cause of death is normally from the vehicle colliding with the moose’s legs because they are so tall, thus causing the moose to roll on top of the vehicle. Another tidbit of information: Maine has 3 weeks of Moose Hunting season each fall. You actually have to apply to be part of a winning lottery. Only a certain number of permits are drawn in the winning lottery. This 3 week period is a way to control the over-population of the animal and draws lots of recreational sport for our state.

Okay, that’s enough for my little tidbits of information, let’s move on to today’s card. Notice the lower bottom left-hand side of the card? I added leaves and acorns to continue with the nature inspired card. I used the Autumn Accents Die with Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso Cardstocks. The tip of the acorns were embossed using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder and I added 2 small bows using Linen Thread:

I created clouds by making my very own stencil (which I show you further down) and lightly sponging color with a Sponge Dauber and Soft Sky Ink:

Here’s how I created my homemade clouds:

I cut multiple circles using Whisper White Cardstock and the 3/4″ & 1″ Circle Punch’s. I then used Tombow Multipurpose Glue to make a “clump” to resemble a cloud:

Then all you do is use your “clump” as a stencil to add color to your background. I usually only add color to the top of the stencil and then move the stencil and add another cloud. Keep moving your stencil around until you like the effect:

I even added a few clouds to the sentiment layer:

I really need to visit Maine!! Then, I can finally (or possibly) see my first moose!!!! I love moose so much because they are so nonchalant about where they walk, eat, sleep, run and raise their young. They go through life not caring about much except for hungry bears, hunters and fast moving vehicles!! I love your card…he must have really loved it!! I will be ordering that stamp set on my next order!! Have a fun and a safe 4th of July holiday weekend!
