I have a technique to show you today and I have TWO CARDS to show you using this technique. The technique is called “Double Embossing” because we will be using 2 different embossing folders on the same cardstock layer. Take a peek at the two close-ups below:
Notice the 2 frames I used in the center of each panel and notice how none of the background embossing affected the center? Here’s how I achieved this:
You will need: Exacto Knife, Thick Cardboard
Step 1:
Cut out a piece of cardboard measuring 5.5″ x 4.25″. Using your Exacto knife, cut out an oval large enough to cover the oval from the “Designer Frames Textured Impressions Folder”. I used the oval from the now retired “Ovals Die”. I traced it on my cardboard and cut it out (carefully) using my Exacto knife. Make sure you position the oval where the folder will sit on the cardfront. Pop out the oval you cut out and keep that piece also as you will be using it in another step.
Step 2:
Place your cardstock piece in your embossing folder and this is the order of your “sandwich” you need:
- Big Shot platform
- Tab 1
- Tab 2
- Embossing folder with cardstock piece inserted
- Cardboard with oval shape cut-out
Carefully place the cardboard so its sits perfectly on top of the embossing folder, aligning the sides so they are even to your embossing folder.
Step 3:
Add (1) Clear Plate on top of your sandwich and run through the Big Shot Machine.
The 2 photo’s below show you what your embossed cardstock piece should look like:
Step 4:
Now add your embossed cardstock piece to the inside of the Designer Frame (oval one) and position oval of designer frame to oval “blank space” on your embossed cardstock. Use the same sandwich you used in Step 2:
- Big Shot platform
- Tab 1
- Tab 2
- Embossing folder with cardstock piece inserted
- Oval Cardboard Shape that you cut out
The oval cardboard shape goes directly on top of the oval shape from your embossing folder. See photo above. Now the important part: Add (1) Clear Plate to the top of your sandwich but align the Clear Plate so that it sits at the very top and even with the edge of your oval cardboard piece (see photo above) and run through the Big Shot Machine but stop when the Big Shot reaches the top edge of the Clear Plate and then turn your handle backwards to push the sandwich back out. If you don’t complete this step in this manner, the embossing from the 1st embossing folder will flatten out near the top.
This is the result:
Repeat all the same steps for the square frame embossing folder. When you cut the center of your cardboard, cut a square measuring 2″ x 2 5/8″ for your hole. Keep the square piece you cut out for a later step. This is what your completed cardstock piece will look like:
