Studio Sketches

July 16, 2010 1 Comment

Today I felt like a little kid with my coloring tools. Watercoloring is one of my favorite techniques. I love how you start out with a blank piece of paper and work it with color.

Believe it or not, this is a combination of 3 stamps that I used the Masking Technique with! I have a tutorial on masking to show you the steps on how to achieve this technique. Click HERE to view.

When watercoloring, I always grab my color with the tip of my Blender Pen and find a corner of an image to start with. As you start in the corner or edge of an image, the color will be darker and as you pull the color along, it gradually gets lighter. This gives the image dimension and the lighter and darker shading is what makes the images pop. Another little trick that I incorporate is using a very light color, gently follow the outside of each image. Notice the light tan color that I used to trace each image. This automatically gives it a shadow effect.

Other Supplies used:

  • Cardstock: Wild Wasabi, Bravo Burgundy, So Saffron, Whisper White
  • Stamp Sets: Studio Sketches, Occasional Quotes
  • Punches: Scallope Edge Border Punch
  • Dies: Square Lattice Impessions Folder
  • Accessories: Itty Bitty Buttons, 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon in Daffodil Delight, Linen Thread
  • Inks: StazOn Black, White Craft Ink
