Scraps Class-Bookmarks

March 15, 2011 3 Comments

April 6th I have a class at our local “Scraps” store. I am teaching the girls how to make 4 different bookmarks.

Turn a tag into a bookmark! I started out with the “Two Tags Die” to complete this bookmark:

  • Instead of cutting out the full bookmark, I folded a piece of “Crumb Cake Cardstock” in half and placed it on my tags die so that the fold was about 1/2″ away from the far edge. By doing this, the cut is made through both layers and keeps the fold intact.
  • I sponged all the edges in “Chocolate Chip Ink” and stamped the whole tag with the “Sanded” backgroud stamp.
  • Using the “love life live life” sentiment from the “You’re a Gem” stamp set, I stamped it repetively 3 times across into 2 rows.
  • Next I cut using the “Circle Scallop Punch” and “Not Quite Navy Cardstock” to layer on my tag using the coordinating scallops.
  • Using the “Bird Punch” and the “In Color Patterns Paper Pack” I cut out just the bird and followed that by cutting the wing out of “Crumb Cake Cardstock”.
  • Add a solo “Rhinestone Jewel” to the wing and one for the bird’s eye.
  • Tie a strip of “1/2″ Stitched Poly Ribbon in Blusing Bride” around the front of the tag.
  • To complete your bookmark, add a magnetic strip to the inside of each scalloped part of the bookmark as pictured below:

As you can see, when the bookmark is in place on the page in your book, the 2 magnets cling to each other so the bookmark stays in place! Isn’t this 3D item so delightful!

Tag Supplies:

  • Tools: Two Tags Die, Bird Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Sponge Dauber
  • Stamp Set: You’re A Gem, Sanded
  • Inks: Chocolate Chip
  • Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Not Quite Navy
  • Accessories: In Color Striped Ribbon, Rhinestone Jewels
  • DSP: In Color Patterns Paper Pack

2nd Bookmark:

I again used the Two Tags Die to complete this bookmark. This is the larger of the 2 tags on this die.

Tag Supplies:

  • Tools: Two Tags Die, Decorative Label Punch, Bird Punch, Fancy Flower Punch
  • Cardstock: Basic Gray, Crumb Cake, Concord Crush, Whisper White
  • DSP: In Color Patterns Paper Pack
  • Inks: Basic Gray

Tag #3:

For this tag I used the retired Petal Die. I wanted to show the girls how they could actually hand cut this one for lack of being able to sell them the die. I wish Stampin’ Up! would bring this die back in the catalog as you can create so many 3D items with it!

Tag Supplies:

  • Tools: Petal Die (retired), Scallop Circle Punch, Round Tab Punch, , 1 1/4″ Circle Punch, 1″ Circle Punch
  • Cardstock: So Saffron, Whisper White, Soft Suede, Poppy Parade
  • Inks: Soft Suede
  • Stamps: Lovely Letters Alphabet

Tag #4:

For this tag all you need is a regular everyday item, a paperclip! Make two sides to your bookmark, glue the paperclip on both sides with Tombow Monoadhesive glue and add a Stampin’ Dimensional between the paperclip for height!

Tag Supplies:

  • Cardstock: Whisper White, Melon Mambo, Garden Green
  • Tools: Scallop Circle Punch, 1 3/8″ Circle Punch, 1 1/4″ Circle Punch
  • Inks: Concord Crush, Garden Green
  • Stamp Set: Vintage Vogue
  • Accessories: Paper Clips

If you would like to sign up for the class, please visit Scraps or give them a call. There is still room for a few more!
