Pop-Up Card & Tutorial

July 31, 2010 2 Comments

You can’t tell by looking at this card, but the inside is a “pop-up” card. This is the first time attempting this type of card and it was quite easy and gratifying!

I started out with a background layer of “Crumb Cake” cut and folded the long way. I then added a layer of “Poppy Parade” and used the “Scallop Edge Border Punch” on one side of my layer. For the third layer, I stamped using the “Elements of Style” stamp set with “Crumb Cake Classic Ink.

For the litte hummingbird, I colored him with “Stampin’ Write Markers” in “Crumb Cake & Poppy Parade”. I then hand-cut the hummingbird with my “Paper Snips” and then turned the bird upside-down into my “VersaMark Ink Pad” and gently pushed it down to get it saturated with the ink. I then sprinkled it with “Clear Embossing Powder” and melted the powder with my “Heat Gun”. This gave my little critter some shine!
I added a small sliver of “Old Olive 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon” to give my card a little zest of color. I then added my hummingbird by adhering a “Stampin’ Dimensional to his underside and placing him on my card.
The next few pictures will show you the “pop-up” inside the card:

I used the “Scallop Trim Border Punch” for one side of my “Whisper White” layer. The popped-up image is the same stamp I used on the front, punch with the “1 3/8″ Circle Punch” and create another hummingbird as above, adhere to front of circle.

The sentiment is from the “On Your Birthday” stamp set.

Okay, how did I do that? Read below and follow the pictures and directions……very simple:

You will need a second layer for the inside in order for this to work. Make this layer a little smaller than your card so it will fit neatly tucked inside. Score in the middle for the fold line.
Using a bone folder, score a rectangle like I did for the picture above. I made mine about 1 inch wide by 3 inches long. With the fold line in the middle, my line was 1.5 inches above the fold line and 1.5 inches below the fold line.

Using an exacto knife or something sharp, cut through your paper the 2 long sides only, leaving the short sides intact. The lines for the short side will be used for folding only.

Picking up your cardstock piece, push your finger through the back to “poke” the piece you just cut. Fold it in the opposite direction than the fold you created for your layer. It should look just like the picture above.
Once all of your score lines have been folded, this is how the card layer will open:

Now all that is left is to adhere whatever you wouldlike to the front. That easy!!
Now it’s your turn! If you have any questions, email me! Enjoy your weekend and thanks for reading my post today. I enjoy all of your comments!!
