Polished Stone Technique & Mother of Pearl Technique

June 7, 2011 3 Comments

This is a technique that I finally dared to try. I learned it at Jeannine’s Play Date I attended. I have to admit something to you……….I hate messing stuff. I’ve always wanted to try this but didn’t because I thought it would be messy. Well, lo and behold, it’s not!

Here are the steps for you if you would like to give it a shot:

  • Start by taking a cotton ball and saturating it with rubbing alcohol. TIP: pour the rubbing alcohol into the cap and stick the cotton ball in the cap to absorb it!
  • Using re-inkers, squeeze 2 drops of each color (use 2-3 different colors).
  • You will need Glossy White Cardstock, pounce the cotton ball to apply the ink to the cardstock.
  • Keep working until you have the desired effect.
  • Let dry or use your Heat Tool to speed drying time.

Once my inks were dry, I also added Frost White Shimmer Paint on top of the colors by crinkling a piece of Saran Wrap and pouncing the paint. This technique is called “Mother of Pearl”. You can see it in the photo below. If you click on the photo, you will have an even better view of it:

If you have any questions about both techniques, please feel free to email me or even if you just want to say Hi, leave me a message. I love hearing from you!

Card Supplies:

  • Cardstock: Wild Wasabi, Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White, Glossy White
  • Inks: Tempting Turquoise, Rich Razzleberry, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White Craft
  • Tools: White Embossing Powder, Scallop Circle Die, Wide Oval Punch, Bird Punch, Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Folder, Mat Pack & Paper Piercer, Stampin’ Dimensionals

great colour combo and I'm going to have to have a go at this. I like how you have used the growing green stampset with richrazzleberry.

Oh, so pretty, I like the Polished Stone and the effect of the Mother of Pearl tops it off.
Thanks for sharing and for all your ideas at Create with Connie and Mary.
