It’s Tea Time & Emboss Resist!

Hi Stampers! If you are quite new to stamping, I’m going to show you the “Emboss Resist Technique” today. It is sometimes a little difficult for me to think “new stamper” when I post to my blog. I’ve been stamping for so long that I always assume everyone keeps up with me and understands and knows what I’m showing. Today was a little different. I thought to myself  as I was loading the photo’s…“hey, maybe someone reading this has never done this before”… If you are not new to stamping, this will be a little refresher for  you!

Notice the sentiment in the background that has been stamped several times? And notice how the watercolored background seems to flow around the wording without coloring it? That’s what I’m showing you today:

This technique is called “Emboss Resist”. What that means is the ink color added to a previously embossed area will not color the embossed area. Let me show you how. If you want to try this, you will need a piece of Whisper White Cardstock, VersaMark Ink, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, any colored ink and an Aqua Painter:

Step 1:

Using the VersaMark Ink Pad, stamp the sentiment repeatedly on the cardstock, re-inking your stamp each time.

TIP: Use an Embossing Buddy before you stamp to remove any static from your cardstock or to prevent any extra powder from sticking to your project.

Sprinkle the stamping with Clear Embossing Powder and use your Heat Tool to heat set the embossing powder. Note that this ink stamps clear but you can somewhat see what I did in the photo below. If you click on the photo you may see it better:

Step 2:

Using the Aqua Painter and ink (I used Soft Suede Ink), pick up some of the ink from the inside cover of your ink pad with the Aqua Pen and color over the embossing. I just swished my color back and forth horizontally:

Note: to create an ink well on the inside of your ink pad lid, before opening the lid squeeze and push in the center of the ink pad with your hands. The ink should stick to the inside cover.

Step 3:

Wipe over the embossing using a tissue to remove any excess ink that has welled-up and then stamp any other images you want to add to the background. Wipe again with a tissue once all of your stamping is completed:

• Card Base: Wisteria Wonder Cardstock 11″ x 4-1/4″ Score and fold in the center at 5-1/2″.
• Layer #2: Watermelon Wonder Cardstock 5-1/4″ x 4″. Glue to card base.
• Layer #3: Whisper White Cardstock 5″ x 3-3/4″. Follow directions at the beginning of the post for the sentiments & ink wash. Glue to card front.
• Die-cuts: Use the Have A Cuppa Designer Paper and the Cups & Kettle Framelits Dies to cut out two tea cups & one tea kettle. Glue one of the tea cups and the top of the tea kettle using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
• Hearts: Cut 2 hearts using the heart punch from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack and the same designer paper. Glue in place on card front.
• Tea Bag: Stamp one tea bag on Whisper White Cardstock using Bermuda Bay Ink. Cut with the framelits and add a piece of White Baker’s Twine to the back using a Glue Dot. Add another glue dot to the other end and tuck on the backside of the tea cup.
• Bling: Add Rhinestone Jewels to the background and one to the tea bag.
