CAS Mix Up Challenge!

March 15, 2016 4 Comments

My teammate from the Merry Monday Challenge team Bonnie and her friend Loll have started a brand new challenge. It is called CAS Mix Up Challenge and their first challenge is up and running for the whole month. This challenge is about using mixed media on our cards yet keeping them CAS (Clean and Simple).

For my entry to this 1st challenge, I used the required stamping & watercoloring and added in die-cutting and splattering:

Watercoloring is my favorite technique. I love grabbing a paint brush, aqua painter or blender pen and going right at it. For my watercolored background, I spritzed some H2O on Watercolor Paper and added dabs of Wisteria Wonder, Lost Lagoon & Blushing Bride Inks with an Aqua Painter. The sprayed on water grabs the ink color and it spreads all on it’s own. Once everything was completely dry, I added the sentiment from the Suite Sayings stamp set in Memento Black Ink:

My splatters came out so GOOD! I used an empty embellishment container and added a few drops of Tombow Multipurpose Glue and squeezed a few drops of water from my Aqua Painter and mixed it into the glue. Once it was thoroughly mixed I splattered the glue on my watercolored background and sprinkled Gold Stampin’ Glitter and allowed it to dry. Isn’t it pretty?

My last step was to use the small butterfly from the Butterflies Thinlits Dies and cut cut one butterfly from the watercolored layer. I glued my layer to the Lost Lagoon card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals and added the butterfly back in the cut hole using a Stampin’ Dimensional and flipped up the wings. I layered a 2nd butterfly cut with Vellum Cardstock over the watercolored butterfly!

GORGEOUS!! Love the beautiful colours of your watercoloured background, Debbie. And what a fantastic idea to splatter glue and then add gold glitter … it gives so much shine and shimmer to the card. Also love the design with the partially inlaid, and partially popped up butterfly with the light and airy vellum layer on top. Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up!
