Butterfly Punch Pansies & Tutorial

June 8, 2010 2 Comments

A few of my customers have requested a tutorial on how to make the Pansy flowers below:

Who would have thought that someone would come up with this idea using the “Butterfly Punch”?

Follow the steps outlined below and you’ll see for yourself how easy and quick these are to create.

Supplies needed:

  • Butterfly Punch
  • Aqua Painters
  • Painters Palette or you can even use the lid of an embellishment container
  • White Glossy Cardstock
  • Reinkers
  • Water Mist Spray Bottle

Punch 4 Butterflies with “White Glossy Cardstock”

The reinkers I will be using in this tutorial are “Bashful Blue & Night of Navy”.

Using your reinkers and your painters palette, squeeze about 6 drops of each color of reinker:

Lay out your butterfly’s on paper towels or tissues, glossy side up:

Using your water mist bottle, saturate your butterfly’s. You’ll notice the water beads on mine below, I misted some more until they were saturated:

Dip your aquapainter in one of your reinker colors and lightly touch the center of your butterfly. The water will grab the color and start spreading on it’s own.

Using the next color, do the same but keep to the outside edges this time. This is what your butterfly should look like. Now spray mist again so that the colors will mix:

I completed 4 butterfly’s below and look how different each one of them turned out. You will notice some lighter coloring as the butterfly’s are starting to dry. Let dry completely before moving on to the next step. You can use your heat gun if your are impatient (like I am)!

Using your “Mat Pack & Paper Piercer”, pierce a hole in the center of each butterfly:

Stack two butterfly’s on top of each other, one horizontal and one vertical and add a brad to the center to hold them together. Using your “Stampin’ Write Marker”, make little squiggley lines in the center. I used “Night of Navy” for these flowers. Bend the top butterfly towards the center to create a 3-D look:

Complete your card as you like. If you want to create the card I made, the supplies are listed below:

Card supplies:
  • Butterfly Punch for pansies

  • Reinkers
  • Square Lattice Impressions Folder
  • Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set

Pansies are my favorite. I don't have the butterfly punch yet (waiting for the new catalog to get it in the new design), but you can bet I'll be making these. Thanks for sharing your ideas. You do terrific work.
