Welcome to a Saturday Blog Hop at Create with Connie & Mary. Have you enjoyed viewing the new Annual Catalog? Wowza huh? So this week we are all creating “Abstract” projects. I made my own abstract background for today’s card:
All of the flower images are clear-embossed. Isn’t it neat how the different colors of flowers show through the black background? I’ll explain how I did this once you view this close-up photo:
So the technique I used for my abstract card is called Joseph’s Coat. I started out with a piece of Whisper White Cardstock and I swiped 5 ink pads to fill in the whole cardstock layer with the ink colors. I used:
- Pacific Point Ink
- Gorgeous Grape Ink
- Real Red Ink
- Pineapple Punch Ink
- Bermuda Bay Ink
You don’t have to be perfect when swiping the ink pads. Just turn the ink pads upside-down, add pressure and drag across the cardstock. Just keep adding strips of color like I did here in Step 1:
Step 2: Stamp the flower image from the Sunshine Sayings stamp set repeatedly over the whole background layer using VersaMark Ink. Make sure you go off on the sides too. Sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder and use the Heat Tool to melt the powder.
Step 3: Using a black ink pad, I used Memento Jet Black, turn the ink pad upside-down and color over the whole cardstock piece. You will notice that the clear embossing “resists” the ink:
Step 4: Using a tissue or soft cloth, wipe off the excess ink on the flower images. You’ll see the color brighten up as you wipe over the images:
What else did I add to my card? I glued the completed abstract cardstock layer to a Bermuda Bay Cardstock base measuring 11″ x 4-1/4″ and scored in the center at 5-1/2″:
I finished the front by adding a small banner to the bottom that measures 2-3/4″ x 3/4″. Stamp the sentiment from the Sunshine Sayings stamp set using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and glue to the right-hand side of the card about 1/2″ from the bottom. Add the “celebrate” die-cut from the Celebrate You Thinlits Dies cut with Whisper White Cardstock above the banner. That’s it!
